A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.
*Donald Trump's second term has been detrimental to the United States and our standing in the world:
Mass Firings and Undermining Federal Workforce:
The Trump administration sent mass emails to federal workers, encouraging them to resign and threatening job cuts, which critics called an intimidation tactic to dismantle the career civil service. He also fired seventeen inspectors general, independent officials responsible for oversight, without the legally required 30-day notice or case-specific justification, which some members of Congress objected to.
Abuse of Executive Orders and Disregard for Rule of Law:
Trump has issued numerous executive orders that have faced legal challenges and been ruled unconstitutional by federal judges. Examples include an attempt to end birthright citizenship and a halt on nearly all federal grant funding, which was blocked by a judge for illegally withholding congressionally appropriated funds. His administration has been accused of disregarding court orders and threatening the impeachment of judges who strike down his policies.
Cronyism and Conflicts of Interest:
Concerns remain regarding the use of his office for personal financial benefit. He has not divested from his businesses, leading to ongoing conflicts of interest, and has appointed donors and loyalists to key government positions. Billionaire Elon Musk was given free rein in the new Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), leading to the layoff of thousands of workers and concerns about data access.
Health Care and Social Services Cuts:
The administration has rolled back key Affordable Care Act protections, allowing insurers to deny coverage for pre-existing conditions and impose lifetime limits. Additionally drastic cuts the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Medicaid, are resulting in millions losing food assistance and health coverage.
Worker Rights and Wages:
Actions have been taken to erode workers' rights and economic security, including rescinding an executive order that increased the minimum wage for federal contractors, cutting pay for migrant farm workers, and removing collective bargaining rights from federal employees.
Immigration:
The administration has engaged in a sweeping campaign of deportations, often without due process, and has targeted immigrants who are legally in the U.S. under various protection programs. New restrictions have been placed on visas for foreign journalists, and refugee arrivals have been almost entirely halted, with specific preference given to "white" Afrikaners from South Africa.
Environmental Protections:
Sweeping rollbacks of environmental protections, including weakening air and water quality regulations and cutting funding for clean energy programs, have drawn widespread criticism from health and environmental experts.
Foreign Relations and Media Freedom:
The U.S. has initiated withdrawal from international agreements and bodies, including the World Health Organization and the Paris Climate Accords. The administration has also been criticized for targeting journalists, suing media outlets, and creating a climate of fear and uncertainty for independent press.
