A long-time active member of the Cass County Democratic Party, Jim Weaver was a four-term member and former president of the Logansport City Council and served as a member and president of the Logansport School Board. A fervent alumnus of Purdue University, he was active in the Logansport Rotary Club, the Logansport Civic Players, the Cass County Historical Society, the Cass County Historic Preservation Foundation, the Logansport Cass County Chamber of Commerce and All Saints Parish.
Funds to establish the scholarship came from the Jim Weaver family. Jim was serving as president of both the Logansport Economic Development Organization and the Hoosier Heartland Corridor Association at the time of his death in 2004. As an active supporter of the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, a member of the the Logansport Cass County Industrial Park Board of Directors and Logan's Landing Association, he was one of the driving forces behind completing the Hoosier Heartland highway project. Jim was a former vice president and investment officer of National City Bank in Logansport.
Cass County residents who are attending any Ivy Tech campus in the Kokomo Region, have a minimum grade-point average of 2.5 and who are registered voters will be eligible to apply for the $500 scholarship, which may be used for tuition, fees and books.
